Elma, also known as Marie, transitioned from this earthly life on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Mill Creek Nursing Home after a brief illness.
Elma Marie Streater Sims was born on September 6, 1938, in Wadesboro, NC, to the late Leroy Streater and Gertrude Marshall Streater.
Marie joined Parson Grove Baptist Church at an early age and attended there until she moved to Sanford, NC, and later to Greensboro, NC.
Marie was united in marriage to Mr. Charles Sims, who preceded her in death.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters: James Streater, Jr., Leroy “Coot” Streater, Haywood “Hay” Streater, Beverly “Buck” Streater, Joe Ross Streater, Jasper Gatewood, Willie Bell Haskell, Flora Mae Streater, Eva Mae Warren, and Mary Helen McCoy; a niece, Ida “Toni” Streater; and a nephew, Michael Warren.
She is survived by her caregivers and nephew, James Streater, Jr., and wife, Arnita Streater; a longtime friend, Mrs. Catherine Streater of Jamaica, NY; and a host of nieces, other nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be given on Friday, April 12, 2024, at the Chapel of Johnson and Sons Funeral Home, 206 Fourth Street, High Point. The family will receive visitors and friends from 12 noon to 12:30pm at the chapel and the service will began at 12:30pm. The burial will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens, Jamestown, NC.
