Joe Hooper, Sr. Obituary

Mr. Joe Arthur Hooper, Sr., 87, was born on January 14, 1937, in Rockingham County, North Carolina, to Theodore Roosevelt Hooper, Sr. and Dora Alice Neal Hooper. He passed away on April 9, 2024, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Joe Hooper Sr. completed his education in the Guilford County School System. He graduated from Lauglin High School and later served as a veteran in the United States Army. He completed two tours of duty in Vietnam and Desert Storm. After serving in the army, he retired from active duty and the reserve after many years of service. Later, he worked for H.B. Fuller for many years until his retirement. He also worked at the Coca-Cola plant before it closed.

Mr. Hooper was a faithful member of Garrett's Grove Methodist Church for many years. He was a member of the Male Choir, the Men's Laymen League, and served as president of the Methodist Men's Group. He was also responsible for taking care of the church and served in various other roles until his declining health. He loved his church and family and always showed his love towards them.

In the Greensboro area, Joe was widely known as the lawnmower man. He was a kind, affectionate father and a loyal friend to everyone he met. Joe cherished attending the Blackwell and Hooper family reunion, an event he eagerly anticipated as often as his health permitted. His parents instilled in him a deep religious faith, which anchored his marvelous life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Herman Hooper, Sr. and Theodore Hooper, Jr., and four sisters, Etta Eldridge, Emma Trisuan, Chineta Sheff, and Inez Hairston.

Left to cherish his loving memories; his two beloved sons, Joe A. Hooper, Jr., and Michael Lamont Hooper of Greensboro, NC; three sisters, Annie Clark of Greensboro, NC; Dora Zimmerman of Waterbury, CT; and Irene Bigelow of Reidsville, NC; two grandchildren, Seijah Graham and Bryson Graham of Greensboro, NC; his former wife and caregiver, Margaret Hooper; one godchild, Craig Person; two god grandchildren, Tanneesha Hendrik and Barbara Person all of Greensboro, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.
